Finally home! We spent the weekend taking care of business, visiting friends and eating our way through Chicago and the north/west suburbs. After all the talking I did this weekend, I’m almost out of words, so here is a pictorial guide to our weekend:

This is the El Salvadorian embassy. It was a nondescript door on the eighth floor of a random building on Michigan Avenue. Not exactly what I expected, but they knew how to do their job –

Rafa’s old passport (right) got replaced with his new passport (left). With that very important piece of business taken care of, we found a nice little restaurant to get a bite.

The breakfast we ate was still tearing up Rafa’s stomach (thanks, McDonald’s), so he played it safe with a chicken sandwich. However, I couldn’t resist the Miller Pub Polish special.

Polish sausage, pierogi  and sauerkraut. YUM!

Of course, since we were right across from Chicago’s Millineum park, we had to take the obligatory trip to the center of the bean.

Can you find us?

After we were done in Chicago, we moved west to have some good times with good friends. We meet up with former co-workers from T-3809 for a long-overdue reunion.

Then it was time to celebrate Krystle’s birthday! Rafa got all dressed up.

Just kidding. We got all dressed up and looked great, but unfortunately we forgot to take any pictures of us looking normal.

We went to Schaumburg: the Cheesecake Factory, John Barleycorn and Comfort Suites, Woodfield. We had a great time with KK, Chris and all the kids, but soon it was time to go home to our four legged kids.

Rafa got sustenance for the drive through Wisconsin from the finest gas station cuisine available – a delicious tornado  from Love’s Travel Plaza.

So that was our Memorial Day weekend! Good friends, good food, good times. And yes, we will be eating salads for the rest of the week 🙂
