Finally home! We spent the weekend taking care of business, visiting friends and eating our way through Chicago and the north/west suburbs. After all the talking I did this weekend, I’m almost out of words, so here is a pictorial guide to our weekend: This is the El Salvadorian embassy. It was a nondescript door on the eighth floor of a random building on Michigan Avenue. Not exactly what I.. Read More
Almost happy house news
Our realtor e-mailed us today – The seller signed and accepted your offer, and only your offer was sent to the bank for final approval. I expect to have that final approval this week ( I was hoping for it sooner but sometimes banks can be slow). We are 95% of the way there. We just need the final bank documents, then we can 100% say that the home is.. Read More
One HOT post
I am hot. Literally hot. Nearly on fire. We don’t have air conditioning. Yesterday, it was 96 degrees when we walked home from work. It was 93 degrees upstairs in our house. By the time I was going to bed, it was 90. Today, it was a little cooler – 91 when we got home. That was upstairs. Thankfully, our bedroom is in the basement. It was a pleasant 80-ish.. Read More
A man with style
Check out this new blog!! I’m glad you found your way to it. I’m so excited about the new design and the WordPress platform. It’s so fun to be married to a man with such cool skills. And, as you can tell by looking at this blog, my man also has a great sense of style. I love getting to take advantage of this great taste. But I have to.. Read More
Ghost Speech
During our wedding, I had the pleasure to address some words to our friends and family. I know my words moved Sarah, sadly they didn’t get recorded and they were impromptu. So before time takes its toll on me, I decided to write down what I remember saying. “I would like to start by thanking you for joining us on this special day. We know some of you have traveled.. Dear neighbors…
Good morning, dear duplex neighbors! I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the wake-up call this morning. The music itself wasn’t quite enough to get me out of bed (although I know Gilda loves death metal at 5 am), but the pounding on the walls shook me up. The animal noises in the back yard were a nice touch. I hope the yelling helped you as.. Read More
We made an offer!
We made an offer on the Sherwood house today! I am excited, nervous, excited, terrified and excited all at the same time. But I can’t be too excited – we are in a multiple offer situation on the house, which is in short-sale. In my newly-augmented real estate knowledge, this means that the bank will take a practical look at the numbers and accept whichever offer results in the largest.. Read More
A little love in your heart
Rafa and I just got done volunteering with a bunch of other people from our church, The Rock, at the AIDS walk in Minneapolis. We cheered until our throats hurt and rang our cowbells until our knuckles bled (not even kidding!). We jumped up and down at the starting line to get people pumped up for the walk and gave about a million (almost kidding) high fives to participants as.. Read More
House hunting
We walked through five houses tonight. It really struck me how hard it must be to sell your house.Forced to allow all your doors to be opened, people poking in the nooks and crannies, judging every color, carpet and crack, questioning every spot and stain, knowing that everyone is imagining how to get the memories of your family out. As we drove home, I couldn’t help but peer into houses of every shape and.. Read More
